Paul Pogba has been incredibly vocal in backing Luke Shaw following the Manchester United left-back’s tremendous performance against Leicester City on Friday night.
Man United defeated Leicester 2-1 at Old Trafford in the 2018-19 Premier League curtain-raiser, courtesy of Pogba’s third-minute penalty and Luke Shaw‘s first career goal less than 10 minutes from time.
Following the match, Shaw was heaped with praise by the British media as well as his biggest critic, manager Jose Mourinho, and now temporary captain Pogba has been next in line to show his appreciation.
“He looks after himself, people criticise him. He didn’t have a lot of chances to play last season. He deserves respect, he deserves people to be happy for him.”
Shaw was one of the fringe players in Mourinho’s squad expected to depart during the transfer window, but he decided to stay and fight for his place at United and now is in with a great chance of revitalising his once-promising career.
His display should earn him a start against Brighton & Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium next Sunday, but with Ashley Young nearing full fitness he’ll have to be ready to fight for his place throughout the campaign.
