Matteo Darmian still wants to leave Manchester United this summer and is currently in Italy ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline for Serie A and Serie B clubs.
Since arriving under Louis van Gaal in 2015, the Darmian has fallen further down the right-back pecking order and was limited to just eight Premier League appearances throughout the 2017-18 season.
19-year-old FC Porto full-back Diogo Dalot’s £19m arrival this summer puts the Italian behind both club captain Antonio Valencia and the Portugal U21 international, which has seen him request a transfer away from Old Trafford.
It’s unknown whether Man United are willing to let Darmian leave this month anymore, with Valencia and Dalot both nursing injuries and Timothy Fosu-Mensah being sent out on loan to Premier League new boys Fulham.
The player’s stance is clear though and he wants to leave England in search for regular first-team football, and interest in his homeland of Italy hasn’t exactly been scarce.
Serie A champions Juventus are said to be interested in his services, along with Napoli, AC Milan and Internazionale but none of the parties in for Darmian have matched United’s valuation.
It’s looking more and more likely by the day that Darmian will have to wait until January at the earliest to leave the club, but will act as first-choice right-back until the day comes whilst Valencia continues to recover.
