Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have golden opportunity at Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho may have his centre-back problem solved by Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof after they’ve been handed a golden opportunity.

The two defenders were signed by none other than the Portuguese manager, meaning on some level he has faith in them but rumours emerged of the club’s need for a defender.

It was believed Mourinho was searching for a proven, experienced leader during the summer to address his side’s shaky defence.

If it hadn’t been for David de Gea and his subhuman saves then who knows where United would’ve ended up last season.

A top centre-back was definitely a priority but Jose’s needs were ignored by the Old Trafford hierarchy and he’s left with the same set of players in that position.

However, Bailly and Lindelof already look set to have an incredible season in terms of personal develop after they impressed in recent matches.

The pair have a golden opportunity to prove to Mourinho there’s no real need to readdress the centre-back issue again this winter or even next summer.

The Ivorian has looked outstanding all pre-season long while the Swede had a top World Cup with his nation last month.

Eric and Victor though need to avoid the false dawns that Chris Smalling and Phil Jones often teased fans and even their managers with.

The feeling is the former pair can actually prove their worth with supporters excited by how they performed in Manchester United’s first competitive fixture of the season.

Other than one minor error, both Lindelof and Bailly looked solid in the club’s 2-1 win over Leicester City last Friday.

The key to the two having a great season has no longer anything to do with them adapting but instead with them both remaining fit long enough to get a run in the side.

The good news for Eric and Victor is that Mourinho appears to be open to the idea of allowing them to forge a solid partnership and to prove him right in investing in them.
