Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon has admitted he’s flattered with the Manchester United links but reiterated he’s focussed on his current surroundings.
The youngster was widely touted to become a replacement for Luke Shaw should he end up leaving the club this summer.
However, the former Southampton man put his head down and worked hard over the last few months to impress Jose Mourinho.
It’s seemingly worked since United were said to be no longer interested in signing a left-back whether it’s a youngster or a proven quality one.
Sessegnon would’ve been one of Mourinho’s serious targets given his limitless potential and it could be that a move will still happen in the future.
According to Manchester Evening News, Ryan said: “You always see little bits and bobs when teams are linked with you, but I was always staying focused on playing for Fulham.
“That’s my main focus – just getting my head down and playing for Fulham. Of course as a young player, when you get linked to these clubs playing Champions League football, it’s always flattering.”
With Daley Blind gone to Ajax, Shaw has a fairly straightforward shot at the left-back spot or at least an easier one that last season.
Of course he’ll have to beat trusted defender Ashley Young for the position but he’s gotten off to a good start so far.
Luke was on the scoresheet for Manchester United’s first competitive fixture of the season, netting what proved to be the winner in a 2-1 victory.
Nonetheless, there may still be room for Sessegnon should the United man fail to reach his potential or Young should start to show signs of a decline.
