Romelu Lukaku returns to the Manchester United starting line-up for this afternoon’s opening away fixture of the 2018-19 season against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Belgium international helped his nation reach the World Cup semi-finals this summer and therefore arrived late from his holidays, but still made himself available for the bench in last Friday’s Premier League curtain-raiser against Leicester City at Old Trafford.
Lukaku starts at the AMEX Stadium, as does Ashley Young who also played in the latter stages of the World Cup in Russia with England and was on the bench for the 2-1 defeat of Leicester.
They are joined by Anthony Martial, who makes his first start of the campaign after a summer where his future was constantly in the air and has a huge chance to move ahead of Marcus Rashford in the left-wing pecking order.
Martial replaces Rashford and Matteo Darmian and Alexis Sanchez are the players who make way as part of the other changes, with Jose Mourinho confirming he picked up a knock in training.
It’s a strong Man United line-up and should really be enough to make it two wins out of two games this term, avoiding the prospect of another humiliation like what happened in this fixture last time around.
Manchester United XI: De Gea; Young, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw; Andreas, Fred, Pogba; Mata, Martial, Lukaku.
Brighton & Hove Albion XI: Ryan; Montoya, Duffy, Dunk, Bong; Knockaert, Stephens, Propper, March; Gross; Murray.
