Former assistant to Alex Ferguson Mike Phelan has hit out at Mino Raiola for publicly attacking Paul Scholes over his comments on Paul Pogba’s performance against Brighton and Hove Albion over the weekend.
The Frenchman drew criticism from Scholes and many other pundits for a midfield performance he himself admitted was not good enough.
Raiola nonetheless waded in, claiming Scholes would not recognise a leader if he was standing in front of Winston Churchill and threatening the prospect of finding his client a new club.
And Phelan has stepped in, slamming Raiola for his overly invasive role in the process of transfers.

There is a reason Mourinho refused to do business with Raiola this summer. As Phelan notes, when Pogba’s agent is at the table the terms of any deal are not directed by footballing factors.
Raiola, as Ferguson once famously noted, is a ‘shitebag’. And by ‘shitebag’ he means somebody who is slimy, self-interested, and indeed disrespectful of the process behind transfer deals. He goes for what he wants – a considerable slice of any figure agreed – and does not let up until he gets it. Either that or he walks away.
He is a person worth avoiding. It would be a genuine tragedy if United allowed Raiola to be one of the primary reasons behind Pogba leaving Old Trafford twice in six years.
