<—Article Start—>Jose Mourinho didn’t give the journalists present at his pre-Tottenham Hotspur press conference much to work with and provided another reason to dominate the front pages.
For what must be the first time ever, Mourinho actually refused to talk about his players in public amongst the media attention on Manchester United following the stunning 3-2 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion last Sunday.
Centre-back duo Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have been targeted the most but their manager has appeared to have backed them up prior to the huge clash on Monday.
During his press conference ahead of the meeting with Tottenham at Old Trafford, Mourinho provided an extremely cagey response to questions about Bailly and Lindelof: “I don’t comment to you on my players.”
Mourinho has received criticism in the past over his negative comments about players, most notably Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba in recent history, but it’s good to see him prevent negative stories this time around.
At least one of Bailly and Lindelof are expected to lose their place in the starting line-up on Monday night though, with Chris Smalling the most likely candidate to step in.
Even though it’s very early in the season, the Spurs clash should be seen as a must-win to avoid slipping further behind the Premier League title rivals.<—Article End—>
