Paul Pogba has been described as a “player of unquestionable quality” by FC Barcelona’s vice-president.
In a way that will remind English football fans worryingly of how the Catalan club pursued Philippe Coutinho while the Brazilian was at Liverpool, this is not the first time Pogba has been mentioned by a Barcelona employee.
Both Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez have spoken highly of Pogba, who was linked with a move to Barcelona from Manchester United this summer.
Reports from Man United sources indicate that Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward is adamant that the club will not sell their French midfield star, but Barcelona’s interest is clear for everyone to see.
“We do not talk about players that are not at our club,” Barca’s vice-president Jordi Mestre stated, before doing on to talk about Pogba, a player that isn’t at his club.
“What I read is that Pogba is unhappy at Manchester United and his agent, Mino Raiola, has been more vehement in efforts to sell him.”
“But I have not read that he says he wants to sign for the club [Barcelona]. Yes, he is a player of unquestionable quality in the eyes of all the world.”
United fans will be praying that something will put Barcelona off their chase of Pogba. While the 25-year-old has not reached his peak at United and must do more over the next season to be considered value for money, he remains the most talented player in the squad.
A half-hearted, underperforming Pogba is better than most of United’s squad and better than many Premier League central midfielders.
One other report in Mundo Deportivo suggested that Barcelona may be put off a Pogba deal by his agent, Mino Raiola, who would demand a huge fee for his services.
Raiola is a cancer of Man United with his words around Pogba and club legends like Paul Scholes. The only hope is that other clubs don’t wish to deal with him or pay him the huge sums he demands and thus Pogba will stay at United.
