France and Juventus star Blaise Matuidi has revealed that he and Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba have joked about the latter returning to Turin.
Pogba appears to have a frosty relationship with Man United manager Jose Mourinho and his comments in the last few weeks have hardly inspired confidence in his commitment to the club.
While linked with a return to Juventus, Pogba has also been the subject of interest from La Liga side FC Barcelona.
Matuidi, though, told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he and Pogba have “joked about his return to Turin”.
It’s likely, though, that he was referring to United’s meeting with Juventus in the UEFA Champions League group stages. Pogba will play at the Allianz Stadium for the first time since he left the Old Lady in August 2016 when United travel to Turin on November 7th.
“I gave him appointment on the pitch, we have a very strong team with many top players that can do very well this season,” Matuidi continued.
“The Champions League group stage will be a tough one, not only for Man United. Valencia are also a very solid team.”
“We are ready. We’ve been working hard and we are ready to play our cards in Champions League.”
It shows the differing tactics of Juventus and Barcelona, and perhaps also the differing levels of interest.
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has praised Pogba as a player, and so too has forward Luis Suarez. It doesn’t end there. The club’s vice-president Jordi Mestre also called Pogba a player of “exceptional quality.”
Juventus have also been heavily linked with a move for Pogba, with Tuttosport reporting on Tuesday that sporting director Fabio Paratici wants a double swoop for Pogba and Real Madrid left-back Marcelo in the January transfer window.
However, when Matuidi had a chance to comment on Pogba and increase the rumours, he did not.
