Manchester United are ready to dispense with Eric Bailly in order to secure the signature of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho only started Bailly once in the last eight games of the 2017/18 campaign. The Ivorian hasn’t made a start since his horror show against Brighton and Hove Albion last month.
Bailly is understood to be frustrated at his predicament under the 55-year-old and is considering looking elsewhere in January if he continues to be frozen out.
And according to M.E.N‘s Richard Fay, Man United would be willing to let Bailly leave in exchange for Ozil, who Mourinho managed at Real Madrid and has admired for some time.
United and Arsenal completed a swap deal in the January transfer window involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexis Sanchez.
Prizing Ozil away from Arsenal, however, would be a different task altogether from pinching Sanchez from the Emirates. The former recently penned a new contract at Arsenal and seems content at the club despite rumours of a rift with Unai Emery.
Bailly has been an at times excellent but often frustrating player for United, and you wouldn’t bet against Mourinho trying to find a more reliable player in the window.
