Manchester United and Paul Pogba to be at centre of next summer’s transfer merry-go-round

Manchester United could be involved in a £200 million transfer merry-go-round come next summer’s window.

The club are not strangers to such events, and Paul Pogba’s situation at the club could cause a whole host of other deals to be triggered across Europe.

The Frenchman has a frosty relationship with Man United manager Jose Mourinho and was heavily linked with a move to either FC Barcelona or Italian champions Juventus in August.

CalcioMercato suggest that Pogba’s links with Juventus could cause a number of dealings to be set off. The Serie A side have one of the finest teams in Europe, particularly after the additions of Cristiano Ronaldo, Leonardo Bonucci and Emre Can in the summer, but are still looking at Pogba.

The Old Lady are now reportedly considering a January move for young Belgian talent Youri Tielemans. However, if they decide that they want to pursue Pogba, and believe they can get him, then it’s likely Juventus will wait until the summer and skip Tielemans in favour of Pogba.

At the same time, they’re focusing on bringing Adrien Rabiot in on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain as his contract expires in the summer.

A big-name signing is on the agenda for the summer, though, and that could be Pogba. If it is, it’s likely that it will free up funds at United to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, the Lazio midfielder valued at over £100 million.

With Milinkovic-Savic also presenting an alternative option for Juventus, they could pursue the Serbian as well. That would leave Pogba free to either stay at United or join another club. And so, Juventus pursuing Milinkovic-Savic rather than Pogba would open the door of opportunity for FC Barcelona, who are clearly admirers of Pogba and have scouted him already this season extensively.

It will be a busy summer.
