It would be fair to state that Alexis Sanchez has not enjoyed the most prolific of starts to his Manchester United career. The Chile international moved to Old Trafford as part of a swap deal with Arsenal – Henrikh Mkhitaryan left in the other direction.
Since joining United, Sanchez had scored just two goals in 17 Premier League appearances before his late winner against Newcastle United and that strike could give him the incentive to push on and enjoy a successful career at The Theatre of Dreams.
At 29 years old, Sanchez should be in the prime of his life. He was a revelation at Barcelona before shining as Arsenal’s main man for the best part of four years. Sanchez was linked with a move to United’s arch rivals Manchester City but the Chilean snubbed the Blues in favour of signing for the Red Devils.
Jose Mourinho has stuck by Sanchez despite his poor form in recent months and his faith may be rewarded if the former Barcelona star regains his confidence in front of goal.
Sanchez was simply sublime for Arsenal in the 2016/17 Premier League campaign, notching 24 goals in 38 appearances – the only time he has managed to stay fit for an entire season. Niggling injuries have affected his start to life at Old Trafford and fans should be patient with the Chilean.
If he manages to get back to his brilliant best, United will be confident of climbing up the Premier League table and challenging for those top positions. It would be foolish to label Manchester United as out of the title race after eight league games.
As of October 8th, United are seven points off the pace – City, Chelsea and Liverpool are all tied for top spot. The Red Devils, priced at 100/1 in Premier League betting odds at William Hill, will still fancy their chances of a dramatic title triumph but their chances look bleak at best.
Sanchez hitting top form will certainly give United a boost as they attempt to reduce the deficit to their rivals at the summit of the Premier League ladder. Write Sanchez and co off at your peril.

Some fans have been quick to criticise the Chilean but perhaps supporters have been too eager to blame United’s recent woes on Sanchez. Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba have both struggled to inspire confidence – two of the most expensive players to move to Old Trafford in recent years.
Lukaku has missed a hatful of chances whilst Pogba continues to blow hot and cold; it is unfair to state that Sanchez is the main reason for United’s struggles so far in 2018/19.
Expect a new and improved Alexis Sanchez to feature for the Red Devils after the upcoming international break; Manchester United are going to need the Chile star to step up.
With so much invested in acquiring Sanchez, there is a clear and obvious need for the former Arsenal man to improve. And improve he will; that Newcastle winner will give him a huge boost ahead of a busy run of Premier League fixtures.
