Manchester United will reportedly not have an easy run at Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic with Bayern Munich set to compete for his signature according to reports.
The centre-back has apparently become a priority for Jose Mourinho as he aims to shore up what has proven to be a leaky defence.
United seemed to be the only top European club who were interested in the Serbian but others have now come into play to complicate matters.
Mourinho was said to have initially targeted Milenkovic since he would theoretically come for cheap but that hasn’t been the case so far.
The board at Old Trafford weren’t eager to spend big on proven talent and yet they are still set to be outmanoeuvred on another potential signing.
According to Playing for 90, Calcio Mercato report that Bayern Munich will battle it out with the Red Devils for Nikola as they hope to revitalise an ageing backline.
Transfers have now become unpredictable so there’s no telling where the defender will end up if he even decides to leave.
However, given how reports claimed Fiorentina rejected a £75m bid for Milenkovic, it’s unlikely Manchester United will increase it any further.
The club’s board refused to spend the same amount on Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld last summer so it would be a surprise to see any different this winter.
