Antonio Valencia set to leave Manchester United this summer: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United star Antonio Valencia is reportedly set to depart the club this upcoming summer.

The Ecuadorian is one of the club’s current longest serving players but fans have become increasingly frustrated with his performances of late.

Valencia’s positional rivals are Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Diogo Dalot who is most tipped to replace him in the long run.

The youngster has shown glimpses of quality but clearly needs to adapt before being handed the first-team reigns on a more consistent basis.

According to Manchester Evening News, Antonio’s contract that expires in a few months won’t be extended and his representatives have already looked at a few options including Inter Milan.

Whoever is the manager when the next season begins will have to decide whether to allow Dalot the time to grow or to bring in a more experienced, polished player.

Darmian’s desire to leave complicates matters while Young is also a veteran whose ability is likely to decline soon as well.

Luke Shaw has already more or less made the left-back spot his own so it’s clear to see the defence will be the problem area for United in the summer transfer window once more.

Valencia served the club loyally and to the best of his ability but has unfortunately offered no proof to extend his stay.
