Manchester United make contact with Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Barcelona and former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho in a surprise bid to sign him.

The Brazilian was always a talented player but his current situation wasn’t expected to happen though it’s believed to be the reason for the potential transfer.

Coutinho is said to have reached rock bottom with the Spanish side after he’s fallen down the pecking order and is unhappy with his lack of minutes on the pitch.

When Barcelona spent over £100m to sign him a couple of years ago many predicted he would go on to star for them instead of underperform.

According to the Mirror, the Red Devils would have to spend the same £142m amount as Barcelona spent to bring him back to the Premier League.

The La Liga side are open to receiving offers but aren’t willing to suffer a loss on any deal.

It’s believed that Philippe will wait until the summer to see if his situation improves or not and Manchester United aren’t thought of being in a rush to complete the deal.

United’s managerial future is still uncertain with the fans split over whether to hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the permanent managerial role or to steal Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino.

Either way, it’s understood that the Red Devils won’t spend any money until the summer when their future would be clearer.
