Celtic interested in signing Scott McTominay on loan this month – report

Scott McTominay has emerged as a short-term loan target for Celtic this month, according to reports.

The midfielder, who became a favourite under Jose Mourinho, started against Reading in the FA Cup but has only played four Premier League minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And according to the Mail‘s John McGarry, Celtic have taken note of McTominay’s situation and are considering the possibility of signing him on loan to aid their title bid – made interesting, for once, by Rangers being level on points with them – over the next few months.

However, any move away for McTominay this month is contingent on the future of Marouane Fellaini, which is suddenly uncertain. The Belgian has only received one start since Man United’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on November 11, and not featured from the start in any game since Solskjaer arrived as caretaker manager prior to Christmas.

Fellaini penned a new deal at Old Trafford over the summer, making any permanent move away this month extremely difficult and therefore unlikely.

Should the 30-year-old stay put, however, it will mean McTominay can move north of the border to acquire some proper playing time – something evidently not possible under Solskjaer, whose midfield trio of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic looks here to stay.
