Player ratings: Manchester United 2-1 Brighton

by Marwan Harraz

David de Gea 6- Was a spectator for much of the match with the only goal against him coming against the run of play.

Ashley Young 5- Made a couple of defensive errors and although he made plenty of attacking runs his final product was poor. Signs he’s on the decline.

Phil Jones 6- Bit of an average game. Will need to do more to be a true Manchester United centre-back.

Victor Lindelof 7- Easily United’s best defender on the pitch

Diogo Dalot 6- Some impressive pieces of play but very much still a raw product. Needs some polishing before making the right-back spot his own.

Nemanja Matic 7- Fans have been confused how quickly his form has turned the moment Jose Mourinho was sacked and they’re beginning to see his best.

Ander Herrera 7- Covered every single blade of grass. Park Ji-Sung levels of work-rate. Added dynamism to his usual ball-winning prowess.

Paul Pogba 7- Won the penalty and converted it to open the scoring for the Red Devils. Not his best game under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but still impressive nonetheless.

Anthony Martial 7- As direct and vicious as ever but did lack a bit of a clinical edge to his game. Would’ve gotten a goal any other game.

Jesse Lingard 5- Was the worst of Manchester United’s front three. Worked really hard but never seemed to get going.

Marcus Rashford 8- Has become a real menace. His finishing has already improved but more impressively his link-up play was excellent.
