Leicester City vs Manchester United: Potential XI with Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial

by Leo Nieboer

Manchester United supporters were not happy with the performances of Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata against Burnley on Tuesday night.

A very firm consensus has sprung from the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era with regard to Man United’s attacking options: the front three of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford is by far and away the most effective combination available.

And as Man United visit a strong Leicester City side this weekend, Solskjaer will no doubt want to restore his best options to the starting XI after seeing a changed side stutter against Burnley.

With that in mind, here is a potential XI for the clash at the King Power stadium on Sunday.

We have reached a point where the front six at United – three attackers and three midfielders – cannot really be touched. The balance and vitality among those players goes beyond anything seen under Jose Mourinho. They must be allowed something which the latter never gave them: time to evolve on the pitch together.

That is what makes any good team, after all. The injection of Diogo Dalot’s energy out wide, as well as Eric Bailly getting another chance to impress alongside Victor Lindelof, should serve as the only deviations from the normal back four as Solskjaer looks to return to winning ways.
