Former Manchester United star Edwin van der Sar is reportedly a candidate for the club’s director of football role.
The Dutchman is a fan favourite after his trophy-laden years as their goalkeeper and he could be set to return.
Van der Sar is currently working for another of his former clubs in Ajax and previously ruled out moving elsewhere.
United’s search for a director of football has been very public, especially with the departure of Jose Mourinho who hinted the club’s structure was a mess.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as caretaker manager while the club tries to find a permanent successor and a director of football.
According to 101 Great Goals, the Sunday Times report that Edwin is amongst the favourites for the role due to his knowledge of the club and since Paul Mitchel is no longer a candidate.
Given the success in Solskjaer’s reign so far, it’s likely fans would love to see the former goalkeeper back at the club as well.
Van der Sar has done a good job with Ajax so far with the Dutch side catching many observers for their fantastic style of play as well as their youthful squad that’s brimming with potential.
However, the Red Devils could struggle to pry him away and so may be better off looking elsewhere.
