Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Manchester United tactics exploited Chelsea

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Chelsea were well beaten by his side simply because his players followed the tactics instructed to them.

The Norwegian changed the formation of his team after key players Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard suffered injuries vs PSG.

A diamond formation worked fantastically well for Solskjaer with United beating the Blues at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2012.

Paul Pogba scored and grabbed an assist in a superb display but not a single player in a red shirt put a wrong foot in.

Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku came in for the aforementioned players and it’s fair to say they weren’t missed.

With Mata at the tip of the diamond he was far more effective than his usual tepid displays out on the right flank.

The Spaniard was also tasked with keeping an eye out on Chelsea’s Jorginho who is normally so instrumental for his side.

The Italian endured a terrible performance and it was largely down to Juan’s tireless running.

With Lukaku partnered up front with Rashford, he wasn’t his normally frustrating self and instead put in a top defensive display.

Going forward he could obviously do more but it’s a start with many fans hoping it kicks off a good run of form from the Belgian.
