Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has singled out Victor Lindelof for praise due to his recent excellent form.
The Swede was actually one of the players who began to excel towards the end of Jose Mourinho’s reign and he’s carried that on in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure too.
Lindelof’s initial transfer from Benfica didn’t start too well as he struggled to adjust to his new surroundings.
Many had believed at the start of the season that United need two experienced, proven centre-backs as soon as possible.
However, the belief now is that Victor is in need of a top partner instead which is testament to his form.
According to Goal, Nemanja said: “I think [Lindelof] had a difficult time in the beginning. Well done to him to come back.
“It’s not easy, especially playing for Man United, big club, to not start that well and have criticism from the media.
“To come back from that and now perform well, it shows some character as well, which is important if you want to play for Man United. He has some quality definitely. He has done really well.”
Having been a top defender himself, it’s fair to say Vidic knows a thing or two about being a Manchester United centre-back.
Lindelof’s improvement is proof that patience can prove worth it in the long run in terms of developing youngsters.
Neither him or Eric Bailly were the complete products when they were brought in during separate windows but many believed their impact had to be immediate.
There’s still hope the Ivorian can similarly step up so United can better use their summer transfer funds in other positions where top talent is needed.
