Darren Fletcher: Scott McTominay was a catalyst vs PSG

Former Manchester United man Darren Fletcher has singled out Scott McTominay for praise following the club’s historic win over PSG, insisting he was a catalyst for the result.

The youngster featured in a makeshift midfield trio including Andreas Pereira and summer signing Fred.

Some fans were concerned without their first choice midfield of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, United would struggle against a quality PSG side.

Luckily the players who were picked played fantastically with McTominay putting in a ‘coming of age’ performance.

The academy product’s form of late has been so great that he’s even been compared to Fletcher as well.

According to Manchester Evening News, Darren said: “I thought he was unbelievable all night and I thought he was one of the catalysts for the performance because Verratti is their playmaker, and Scott was like a rash all over him.

“He pressed him, and he kept putting his hands on him and annoying him, frustrating him. He just did not stop, he knew what his role was.”

The comparisons to Fletcher is a huge compliment to Scott given how much of a fan favourite the former was.

He has a difficult first choice midfield to break through but it’s not entirely impossible either.

Given Matic’s age, he’s probably the first person who will give way which suits McTominay given the success the later enjoyed in defensive midfield.

While Herrera also still has he’s legs in him, both are in the twilights of their careers.

Nonetheless, Scott can prove himself to be a useful rotational over the course of his career.
