Nemanja Matic: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and backroom team must stay

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United star Nemanja Matic has insisted the backroom staff must stay on as well if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is to be handed the permanent job.

Although the Norwegian is currently just a caretaker manager, many expect him to be permanently employed soon enough.

Solskjaer has far exceeded expectations, dragging United into the previously unthought of top four race.

Matic has also enjoyed a positive turn in form after the former Molde man arrived at the club so it’s no surprise he’s keen on making sure his manager remains.

The club legend has earned the right to be named permanent manager but only time will tell whether hiring him was the right decision.

According to ESPN, Nemanja said: “I think he is a great manager. But you have to say also that with Mike, Michael and Kieran, they work very well together.

“They work as a team. It is not only Ole. There are people behind him who help us. I will be happy if he stays, and I hope he will.”

Ole is said to have insisted on having his backroom staff included in his manager of the month award picture which pleased fans.

Many have recognised that he hasn’t single handedly turned things around but rather he has been well supported.

Mike Phelan in particular is said to have been a major influence while the young minds of Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna have had a positive impact on the Manchester United squad.

Collectively the backroom staff have been superb and Solskjaer is rightfully gaining praise for his own work as well.
