Manchester United revive interest in Leicester’s Harry Maguire: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have reportedly revived their interest in Leicester City’s Harry Maguire as they attempt to resolve their defensive woes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival to Old Trafford hasn’t seen the club’s leaky defence concede fewer goals and so reinforcements to the back four is needed.

Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld were thought to be the main transfer targets for the summer.

However, Maguire has emerged once more as a potential signing with Solskjaer seemingly agreeing with predecessor Jose Mourinho over the need to sign him.

Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof are the current options at centre-back and it’s fair to say the Leicester star rivals if not improves any of them.

According to ESPN, the Red Devils have reignited their interest in Harry despite being priced out of a transfer last summer.

The Englishman’s current deal doesn’t run out until 2023 so the Foxes won’t be rushed into letting him go any time soon.

It’s likely that a similar offer to Liverpool’s for Virgil van Dijk is the only thing that would convince them of letting Maguire go.

Whether Ole has enough room in his budget to part with such money remains to be seen but the need for a top quality defensive reinforcement is clear.
