Manchester United receive boost in chase for Tanguy Ndombele

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have received a boost in their chase for Lyon star Tanguy Ndombele’s signature ahead of a crucial transfer window.

The Frenchman has reportedly been on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side’s radar for some time now and they could finally get what they’ve been wishing for.

The Norwegian is said to have targeted the midfield area as one that needs investing in and with Ander Herrera’s confirmed departure, that need has grown even further.

Ndombele represents the kind of signing Solskjaer wants to make in the sense that he’s young and has potential to grow.

Paul Pogba is also said to be keen on departing which makes a midfield signing even that much more desperate.

According to Calcio Mercato, Lyon star Ferland Mendy’s agent said: “Ndombele is an important midfielder, he has technical and physical skills. He is not always consistent but he gives his best in big games.

“I imagine him at Man United because he is a bit like Pogba and big like Yaya.

“Ndombele could replace Pogba who, I think, wants to leave the Red Devils. He’s played in England and Italy and I think he wants to move to Spain.

“Barcelona have already signed De Jong and Pogba may be the right player for Real Madrid. Juve return? Fascinating but hard, in my opinion. Apart from Bonucci, Juve don’t like returns.

“They could sign Rabiot but PSG’s biggest opportunity is Meunier, his contract expires in one year.”

Tanguy would definitely add quality to United’s midfield but if he is signed then it asks serious questions over Fred’s future at the club.

With Herrera departing it seems that the situation is perfectly set for the Brazilian to slot into midfield.

After all, he was just signed last summer and it’s unlikely he’s willing to spend another year on the sidelines.

Moving Fred on will also likely mean the Red Devils will have to take a hit on his price-tag, making him yet another poor piece of business since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
