Atletico Madrid star and Manchester United target Thomas Partey’s agent has given fans hope over a potential deal by confirming his client’s release clause.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be looking to add a midfielder to his squad for the next season and that was made even more urgent by Ander Herrera‘s departure.
However, with all the money involved in the Premier League nowadays, clubs have very little incentive to sell and so United have either been overpriced out of deals or shut out completely.
Partey would be the ideal addition as he adds real steel to Solskjaer’s midfield while also being capable technically.
The Red Devils are said to be keen on his signature but there was a feeling that Atletico would never sell for cheap, until now at least.
According to the Daily Mail, Thomas’ agent Daniel Jimenez said: “I can say that right now, I haven’t talked to anyone, even if Inter are a top club.
“There’s a €50m (£43.5m) release clause in his contract, a figure that’s cheap for a player like Thomas.
“We’ll wait for the season to end and then we’ll see.”
Jimenez is correct- €50m is relatively cheap for a midfielder in the modern market and Partey would add instant quality to any side’s engine room.
Manchester United should certainly pursue him more urgently despite the player refusing to admit his desire to depart Spain.
Madrid themselves are said to be gearing up for a whirlwind of a summer with there being a feeling that this could be the year that proves to be the end of an era after several stars were reported to be departing.
