Jan Oblak wants Atletico Madrid exit amid David de Gea uncertainty: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United may not be concerned over David de Gea’s future after reports emerged over Jan Oblak’s own uncertain future at Atletico Madrid.

Having just signed a new deal until 2023, many initially believed the Slovenian was an impossible target, especially as he has enjoyed his time in Spain.

United have had to prepare for De Gea’s potential departure as contract negotiations broke down with his current deal expiring next year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could start his first full season in charge without his best player between the sticks but with Oblak’s potential availability, he may not have to worry that much.

According to ESPN, Jan wants to leave Atletico after promises have been broken and he has concerns over the club’s future which works in Solskjaer’s favour as he prefers a move to Old Trafford having been a boyhood Red Devils fan. It’s unusual how quickly the goalkeeper’s situation turned around but if the interest is real then there really won’t be too much concern should David leave.

Just how much it would take to sign the 26 year old remains to be seen but it’s unlikely the Spanish club will sell for cheap. If there’s ever a keeper who could replace the Spaniard then Oblak is certainly as close as it gets.
