Manchester United are reportedly attempting to complete the transfer for Bruno Fernandes regardless of whether or not Paul Pogba remains at the club.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid while Barcelona and Juventus have also been waiting on the wings for his signature.
Some reports have claimed the Portuguese star has been targeted as a replacement for the academy product but it appears United want the move to happen either way.
Perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s thinking is that Fernandes is needed nonetheless since Ander Herrera departed for free this summer.
Should Pogba move then the 24 year old is equally adept at replacing him too so it works out as a smart transfer regardless.
According to the Daily Mail, O Jogo report that the Red Devils are leading the race for Bruno’s signature with Sporting keen on concluding a deal quickly in order to snap up a replacement.
It makes sense that the Portuguese club would want to get things done as soon as possible because leaving it until the last minute could see them begin the next season without a replacement.
It’s also likely that Fernandes’ transfer could allow Sporting to sign multiple players rather than just one, meaning they can address several weaknesses.
