Manchester United are reportedly willing to go all out in their efforts to sign Leicester City’s Harry Maguire with some transfer records going to be broken to make it happen.
The Englishman has emerged as a target of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after it became clear they would struggle to sign Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt.
The former Hull man may not be the cheapest alternative but there is the feeling at Old Trafford that he could be United’s Virgil van Dijk.
Maguire has been impressive since joining the Foxes, making his England debut and hardly looking back since.
Jose Mourinho was also said to be keen on the 26 year old but was denied by his bosses though they now must regret that decision.
According to the Sun, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is willing to do whatever it takes to sign Harry as he prepares to bid £80m and hand the player a £350k a week deal.
The Red Devils are also willing to throw in a defender to reduce the cash price though it remains to be seen whether Leicester are interested in such an offer.
Solskjaer must be aware there are better, cheaper alternatives with more potential such as Benfica’s Ruben Dias who is understood to have a release clause closer to the £50m mark.
