From Spain: Manchester United reject Barcelona bid for Victor Lindelof

by Leo Nieboer

Manchester United have rejected a bid from Barcelona for Victor Lindelof, according to a report from Spain.

The 24-year-old defender was one of Man United’s most consistent performers during the 2018-19 campaign, making 30 appearances in the Premier League.

Barcelona are in the market for options at central defenders after they failed in their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt, who looks set to join Juventus instead.

According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona launched an approach to sign Lindelof but were batted away by United, who do not want to sell the Swede.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer declared in Wednesday’s press conference that United had not received bids for any player and that they were not obligated to sell any players.

United were expected to sign a central defender this summer but that trail appears to have gone cold. Their focus seems to be on another midfielder – which is more necessary given the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini – and the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo are going nowhere.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been mentioned as an option. De Ligt did receive an approach from United but does not want to play Europa League football next season. Other than that, all is quiet when it comes to mooted targets.
