Manchester United dealt blow in race for Lille’s Nicolas Pepe

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United have reportedly suffered a setback in their chase for Lille star Nicolas Pepe in what is starting to become a frustrating summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side may yet make multiple signings but so far they’ve only secured two in Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

It’s believed United were uncontested in their bids for the young pair and yet the transfers took longer than they needed to.

Solskjaer had previously stated a desire to have all his signings in before pre-season and yet it looks as though he may not even have them after either.

Pepe would add definite quality to the Red Devils’ starting XI and his goals from the flanks will certainly prove invaluable.

The goalscoring Ivorian and his club have both continuously given the green light to clubs to sign him yet none have managed to do so, so far.

It’s believed along with Napoli, Liverpool and PSG are also keen on Nicolas after his stunning season in Ligue 1.

Signing the dazzling winger would all but cement Solskjaer’s plans to play both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as strikers as otherwise he’d have far too many wingers.

Romelu Lukaku’s fate would also be all but sealed as he continues his efforts to join a keen Inter Milan side.
