Manchester United fans may finally get what they’ve been wishing for with Nemanja Matic possibly set to depart the club next summer.
The experienced Serbian has arguably been the club’s worst pre-season performer as he appeared to struggle with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dynamic, high-tempo tactics.
Matic has gained a reputation amongst fans as being too slow and not mobile enough which has often left him exposed even as a defensive midfielder.
It’s the reason why supporters felt at the very least a new defensive midfielder was needed before the transfer window could end but unfortunately United opted against investing in a fourth signing.
Reports had previously emerged of the former Chelsea man’s desire to join AC Milan this summer but nothing came of it.
According to Manchester Evening News, Matic may be released at the end of his contract next summer as Solskjaer aims reinvigorate a dying midfield.
The 31 year old is one of United’s few senior players so perhaps the legendary Norwegian opted to hold onto him for a season while his younger players develop.
However, it’s clear in the long run Matic doesn’t really have a part to play in Solskjaer’s new side and so it’s tough to see him being handed an extension.
