Five British players on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer wishlist next summer – report

by Leo Nieboer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has placed James Maddison, Jadon Sancho, Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson and Nathan Collins on his transfer wishlist ahead of next summer, according to a report.

The club made an approach for Maddison over the summer but Leicester were unwilling to sell under any circumstances, with the same outcome occurring when United spoke to Borussia Dortmund about Sancho’s situation.

Longstaff was another name linked with United, who desperately needed to sign a midfielder but didn’t, while Wilson is a player whose name has also been mentioned before. Collins, a defender for Stoke City, is an interesting one – aged just 18, he has become a regular for the Potters in the Championship, featuring in four of the club’s seven games so far this term.

According to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, this five-man list has been drawn up by Solskjaer ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

This list certainly falls in line with Solskjaer’s blueprint of signing young, hungry British players who can develop further by fully buying into the Solskjaer project. Only one player from that list – Wilson, 27 – is above the age of 22.

Moreover, if all of the above is absolutely true, it demonstrates that, even in September, the club is thinking about its next set of targets, which hopefully means the right players arrive in June, ready to learn and acclimatise to life at Old Trafford ahead of the 2020/21 season.
