From Italy: Four clubs want to sign Nemanja Matic next summer

Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are all keen to sign Nemanja Matic on a free transfer next summer, according to reports from Italy.

The Serbian’s contract expires at the end of this season, which means he can speak with other clubs from January onwards.

Matic has been slowly pushed to the periphery at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following a poor 2018-19 campaign, with the midfielder making just one start so far this term.

According to Calcio Mercato, the four aforementioned clubs have all targeted the signature of Matic ahead of him becoming a free agent next year.

Italy has proven to be a popular destination for unwanted United players this summer, with Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling all heading in that direction over the last window.

Matic simply does not align with the Solskjaer blueprint. In fact, he is, you could argue, quite inimical to the very idea of high intensity pressing from the front and fast counter-attacking football.

A very good utility player, yes, but not the right fit for this new-look Solskjaer team.
