Daniel James’ former coach explains why he’s made such a bright start

Daniel James’ former coach Graham Potter has explained just why he’s made such a bright start to life at Manchester United despite arriving as a relative unknown in the summer.

The young Welshman has taken to the team by storm and is quickly becoming a fan favourite just a few months into the season.

James’ form has been so good he’s already established himself as a regular name in the starting XI despite the likes of Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata both having bigger profiles.

The former Swansea man has rightfully displaced them and deserves to continue getting minutes so long as he keeps up his performance.

Though supporters love James’ pace and good finishing, his former coach has pointed out the real reasons for his success so far.

According to Manchester Evening News, Potter said: “I can see Dan’s qualities there. His pace is incredible and his ability to reproduce that often is at such a high level.

“Then he has the courage and reliance that people don’t see so much. He gets kicked, gets back up, goes again. You see his quality, but also he’s had personal circumstances off the pitch that I’m sure have challenged him.

“To settle into a club like Manchester United and play quite regularly, that move from the Championship there is not easy to do, but he’s done it really well. There is always an element of unknown when you make such a big step.

“But Dan is such an incredible lad; such a character that will work for the team, and then has his own attributes that attracted him to Manchester United. As a person I don’t doubt it and I’m delighted for him.”

It’s precisely that mentality or character that allows him to be the direct player fans love him for.

His constant willingness to take his man on no matter the circumstances can only happen if he’s brave and courageous.

Some would even say he’s been Manchester United’s best attacker this season and it would tough to argue otherwise.

Marcus Rashford has been a little inconsistent while Anthony Martial has missed a chunk through injury while James has carried the team forwards.
