Brandon Williams produces wonderful display on Premier League debut vs. Brighton & Hove Albion

by Leo Nieboer

Brandon Williams once again looked right at home in a Manchester United shirt on his Premier League debut during a 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Sunday.

The 19-year-old, who had impressed against Partizan Belgrade and Chelsea, was handed his Premier League debut in the wake of Ashley Young’s suspension.

His performance was one of unbridled energy and bravery down the left hand side – one that convinced United fans of his ability to start ahead of both Young and even Luke Shaw.

Williams’ numbers from the game reflect what was a wonderfully indefatigable display.

Above all, Williams is a man of pace and power, the raw elements. He will need to improve on some minor technical details but the essentially thrust of his play, the way he gets about the pitch, is precisely what United do not have whenever Young or Shaw – when he is fit – plays in that role instead.

Solskjaer has been careful with Williams so far, refusing to use him in consecutive games whilst keeping him in the fold, but now is the time, you suspect, for an extra leap of faith to be taken in the youngster.

When you have a choice between the teenager and Young or Shaw, the answer is an obvious one.
