Player ratings: Astana 2-1 Manchester United

Player ratings: Astana 2-1 Manchester United

Lee Grant 6 – Hardly had any saves to make and was reliable when needed but still had to pick the ball out of his net a few times.

Ethan Laird 6 – Made sense for him to play it safe on his debut but did make the occasional run forward to be fair.

Axel Tuanzebe 6 – Was one of the more experienced players in the starting XI and was solid defensively but occasionally sloppy in possession.

Di’Shon Bernard 5 – Played decently until the pressure was on in the second half. Conceded an own goal moments after almost swiping it into his own net too.

Luke Shaw 5 – Should’ve been a walk in the park for him but struggled to make an impact going forwards and was suspect going back. Lost his man for one of Astana’s goals.

James Garner 6 – Cool, calm and collected, he didn’t do much wrong and kept possession ticking over.

Dylan Levitt 6.5 – Was the more adventurous of the midfield pair, playing more dangerous passes as he thread them through to his teammates. Impressive debut.

Tahith Chong 5 – Hardly impressed and didn’t give United a reason to chase him for a contract renewal. A shadow of the player on pre-season.

Jesse Lingard 6.5 – Started brightly and netted United’s first of the night. Somewhat disappeared pretty much after that despite being the senior player in attack.

Angel Gomes 6 – Grew into the game in the second half but still, much more was expected from him like from Chong.

Mason Greenwood 6 – Ran tirelessly into good positions but wasn’t found by his teammates. Almost scored but was denied by a good save.
