Roy Keane hails Manchester United’s young stars after derby win

Manchester United great Roy Keane has called for consistency from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s young stars following their brilliant win vs Manchester City.

The Norwegian seemed to be on the brink of being sacked before clashes against Tottenham and their fierce local rivals.

However, Solskjaer somehow pulled out fantastic back to back victories from his players and has bought himself some time to get back on track.

Keane was central to many brilliant United sides and so obviously knows what it takes to perform consistently at a high level.

Now the Red Devils sit in fifth place five points away from fourth placed Chelsea with a good winter run potentially saving their season.

According to Sky Sports, Keane: “I absolutely did not see this coming. It was fantastic – a proper Manchester United performance. Lots of bravery and personality. They were outstanding.

“I don’t think beating Tottenham was a big deal at home, but that win today will give the players a lot of confidence as they have been criticised – nobody likes to be criticised.

“But hats off to Manchester United, whatever happens in January with the speculation, question marks over Ole, they were outstanding.

“This was a Manchester United performance.

“It wasn’t all about how they countered attacked, it was how they managed the game, got blocks in and showed personality.

“I really enjoyed watching them – it’s what Manchester United is all about. But the key is to be consistent, week-in, week-out. Hopefully these young players will pick up on that.”

Inconsistency has been the frustration for many Manchester United fans who’ve witnessed their players put in incredible performances vs difficult sides but also put in dreadful displays vs far weaker opponents.

For example, prior to beating the two aforementioned sides, Solskjaer’s men had lost to Astana and drew with Aston Villa.

Hopefully they’ve now stamped out that side to their game and they will have the chance to prove that vs the likes of Everton, Colchester and Watford in the next few games.

United should be able to beat all three comfortably and put together a long winning run that will please their fans.
