Jesse Lingard unavailable for clash vs AZ Alkmaar after missing training

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has given fans an injury scare after missing training amid a clash against AZ Alkmaar later today as well as Everton on Sunday.

The academy product had been in poor form but began to pick up his performances of late, even notching an effort in the loss to Astana.

Fans were hoping Lingard could continue improving, particularly with the team so short of creative talent and facing a host of opposition likely to play with a deeper backline.

With United wanting all three points against Alkmaar to ensure they top their group, the Englishman’s talents would’ve been useful.

Solskjaer has hinted at a less youthful side this time around than the one against Astana so it’s likely Lingard would’ve featured.

What’s worrying isn’t necessarily the injury itself but more so the lack of news about how long he would be out for.

Manchester United were eerily quiet over Lingard’s knock, simply confirming he had one but not stating whether he would be absent for the foreseeable future.

It could be because it was such a small injury or because they don’t know just yet but the worst-case scenario would be that he’s out for a long time.
