Manchester United stars pay tribute to Diego Maradona

Manchester United players past and present have been leaving tributes on Instagram to the legendary Diego Maradona, who died yesterday.

Nemanja Matic posted a photo of Maradona with a signed Matic United shirt.

David de Gea published a photo of himself with the legendary Argentinian.

Harry Maguire left a tribute saying ‘One of the best to ever do it. Rest in peace, Diego Maradona’.

Paul Pogba wrote ‘A sad day for football. Rest in peace, Don Diego.’

Fellow Argentinian Marcos Rojo wrote ‘DIEGO has always been happy to everyone. I love this sport and a big part is because of you, we all grew up just being a little MARADONA. You are always in the heart of all Argentines.’

Jesse Lingard wrote ‘a truly sad day for football. One of the greats has passed on. An inspiration for millions of people across generations around the world. A true icon!! RIP Legend.’

Former player Rio Ferdinand also posted a photo of himself meeting the great man.

Patrice Evra also posted a Diego-selfie, saying ‘the first time i met you was 20 years ago, when you called me Patrice and my home received the blessing of the god of football, gracious throughout DIEGO.’

Eric Cantona posted a photo of Maradona and Johann Cruyff, saying ‘Johan Cruyff, now Diego Maradona. The football I love does not exist anymore.’

And the club itself posted a photo of Maradona playing for Barcelona against Bryan Robson’s United side, saying ‘Football has lost one of its greatest icons. Rest in peace, Diego Maradona.’
