Donny van de Beek wanted by Serie A giants

by Red Billy

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is sensationally already being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The Dutchman was signed for £35 million in the summer but has struggled to break into the United side, having only played 474 minutes of football and having not even started a match in the Premier League.

There has been some speculation that it was a purchase that United did not really need to make and/or that the 23-year-old was not one of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer targets and was bought without his blessing.

The situation has put some big clubs on alert and according to calciomercato.it, first to show their hand is Juventus, who are exploring the possibility of reuniting Van de Beek with his compatriot and former teammate Matthijs de Ligt in June.

‘Months ago, when he was still in Ajax’s ranks, there was some interest from Inter, but there are those who say that the 23-year-old’s profile was snubbed if not completely rejected by Antonio Conte, who wanted and got more experienced profiles for his team,’ the outlet says.

‘In June [Juve’s managing director Fabio] Paratici could … make an attempt with the formula of a loan plus a €35 million [£31m] right to buy, or there may be an exchange, considering the excellent relations between the two clubs.

‘In Turin, van de Beek would be reunited with de Ligt, his Ajax teammate, and a coach like Pirlo, who would probably know how to value and appreciate him more than Solskjaer.’

If Juve were to make such an approach, it seems unlikely that it would be accepted by United. Even if the club was prepared to loan the Dutchman out, they would surely not agree to a sale price lower than the amount they paid for him just 12 months earlier.

What is interesting about the story is that Juventus have for some time been linked with a strong desire to bring another United midfielder, Paul Pogba, back to the club. The fact that they could be switching their attention to a player who Pogba has helped to keep out of United’s starting XI suggests that they are no longer as keen as they were to land the Frenchman, whose options are looking increasingly limited.
