Impressive: Manchester United’s points per game average gives hope

by Marwan Harraz

At the time of writing, Manchester United may be languishing in 11th place in the Premier League table but statistics suggest they have done quite well recently, all things considered.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job has been on the line all season long despite leading the team to a third-place finish last campaign.

United’s poor start to this season saw the legendary Norwegian quickly come under fire after what was a largely disappointing summer transfer window.

Solskjaer oversaw defeats to Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur early on and that meant the pressure was on almost immediately.

The Red Devils’ form has improved recently but the Old Trafford hot-seat is fragile at the minute as one bad result could quickly season opinions change.

Despite their inconsistent form, Manchester United manage to rack up the points over a long-term period, which makes it all the more frustrating.

If Solskjaer was able to have his team going in top gear more often then there’s no doubt their league table position would reflect better than it currently is.

Although some fans were hoping for a title run, it’s clear after the summer United had that would be difficult to achieve.

Everyone understands Solskjaer has not been fully supported and so he gets some leeway in that sense but it’s likely there will be calls for his head if a top-four spot isn’t achieved again this season.

United have had some world class goalkeepers over the years and some entertaining ones too. Take our quiz below to find out how much you know about United’s number 1’s, past and present.
