Michael Carrick set for one-year contract extension with Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are set to offer a one-year contract extension to Michael Carrick reports the Daily Mail.

The 33-year-old signed a new deal with Man United back in 2013 which had an option to extend it by one-year which is what United traditionally offer older players they want to keep once their contracts are coming to an end.

Carrick has spent large parts of this season on the sidelines with injuries but he showed his importance to Louis van Gaal by playing a central role in Man United’s excellent run of form in the build-up to Christmas.

In terms of influence and experience, Carrick is one of United’s most important midfielders. Although he has suffered plenty of injuries this season, he’s the sort of experienced head which United need more of in the squad as a whole.

Even if Louis van Gaal decides to favour Daley Blind over Carrick once they are both fit and ready to play, keeping Carrick in the squad as a whole is just as important.
