“Contact made”: Manchester United express interest in Monaco’s Axel Disasi

by Derick Kinoti

Manchester United have taken the first step in signing Monaco centre-back, Axel Disasi.

This is not the first time Disasi has been linked to the Red Devils. The Peoples Person detailed a while back that United are admirers of the Frenchman with the future of Harry Maguire in doubt.

Maguire is expected to stay at Old Trafford beyond this month but his long-term future at United is not guaranteed.

A number of clubs in England have already expressed interest in the United skipper including Aston Villa and West Ham.

However, club chiefs have remained steadfast in their resolve that Maguire is still part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at least until the summer.

Telefoot reports that alongside United, Bayern Munich are also keen on Disasi.

“Axel Disasi is followed by Bayern Munich and Manchester United.”

“But the vice world champion should stay in Monaco until the end of the season.”

The 24-year-old would be a good acquisition for the 20-time English champions. He is widely regarded as one of France’s brightest prospects.

He averages a tackle, three clearances and two interceptions per game. Disasi is also an aerially dominant centre-back. In the current Ligue 1 season, he has won 75% of his challenges in the air.

The player would definitely be an upgrade on Maguire. Monaco are said to be willing to part with his services for €50m.

In comparison, Chelsea forked out €38m for Benoit Badiashile a few weeks ago and the former Monaco star has hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge.
