David Moyes confirms Manchester United’s interest in signing Thiago

by Sam Peoples

David Moyes has confirmed that Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara but said that securing his signature was ‘not a priority’ this summer.

Pep Guardiola admitted Bayern Munich’s interest in signing Thiago and up until now, United’s interest had not been denied nor confirmed.

But when asked by @stephenhealy87The Sun‘s Charlie Wyett revealed that he brought up Thiago’s name in discussion with Moyes in Bangkok and that the Scot confirmed United were interested in signing him.

The 22-year-old has been the centre of the biggest transfer saga so far this year. Two days ago, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Thiago had claimed he wanted to join Bayern Munich but AS have released counter claims stating that no deal has been struck yet, giving off mixed signals regarding his potential Barcelona departure.

There has been no official movement from either Barcelona or Thiago as of yet but with their pre-season training starting this week, the midfielder will have to make his decision very soon.

Due to his release clause, Thiago will have the power to choose where he wants to play football next season if he does decide to leave Barcelona and if reports are correct, it looks to be a straight choice between Munich and United.

He would have more guaranteed football at United but would be able to link up with Guardiola, the manager who gave him his senior debut, at Munich which makes this saga all the more nervous for both sets of fans.
