Father of Under-17 World Cup MVP confirms move to Manchester but what side?

Kelechi Iheanacho’s yesterday confirmed that his son will move to Manchester City this summer but only after initially saying that he and his son had chosen Manchester United as their team of choice.

The 17-year-old inspired Nigeria to their Under-17 World Cup triumph and was named the Player of the Tournament after getting six goals and seven assists in the competition.

Last week, Kelechi insisted that there had been no contact from any teams including United about his signature but speaking to the Nigerian Tribunehis father James said that he was moving to Manchester.

“As I am talking to you, I have chosen in my mind that Kelechi is going to Manchester United,” he said, before moving to correct himself.

“I have told you that he is going to Manchester City.”

Make your mind up there, James.

It is understandable that United was the first team on his mind given the number of talented players who all have their beginnings in United’s famous academy and from the club’s perspective, Ilheanacho would be welcomed with open arms given his clear talent in front of goal.

Looks like his father James was just as confused about his son’s move to England as Robinho was when he joined City
