Unpopular Opinion - Ashley has improved over the summer.

Before im pelted by hate on my family, let me preface and say I hated Young as a player last season. He was horrible and made our team worse by being on the pitch.

But, since this season has started and since he's been playing in Shaw's place. His form is much better than it was last season. Yes, he has still made many mistakes, and bad passes. But while last year's woes heavily relied on his defensive capabilities on top of his winger capabilities/set pieces. This season with the help of Maguire and Lindelof, he's been able to not worry too much on defending, and has actually made several decent passes and set pieces.

I find myself no longer saying "Stop fucking touching the ball young!" every time he's in possession, only sometimes now.

In fairness hes been a great servant to the team last number of years and for his lack of ability he has great heart unlike others.

To be fair, I don’t think it’s hard to improve on 0/10. Williams has been far more impressive in his games at left back I’d argue and if I never have to see Young swing in a cross that misses all our players again I’ll be a happy man.

Great point.
I guess I could understand Ole in putting his trust on the devil he knows than on a rookie he doesn't yet know, especially when he's already testing so many others all over the pitch

Ashley Young does have some ok-ish games, but the trouble is (as was the trouble with Valencia) is he is a winger (and he was only average at that) and not a full back.
I would never fault his heart though.

Ashley Young is a coward of a player just like Mata and others. His idea of playing it forward is a hopeless long kick upfield other than that he's a sideways pass merchant.

I don't see it. He just winds me up. When we're losing he wastes 15 minutes of every game jibber jabbering and moaning to the ref, trotting from one side of the pitch to the other to take the worst corners anyone's ever taken (what does two arms raised high above your head mean, Ash? Don't bother getting excited this is going to go way over your heads?) He's s cheater and a diver, he's a one trick pony going forward, always dwells on the ball, dribble and shit cross - never a quick layoff or one touch game. If Shaw's injured, 'd rather have Rojo at LB TBH, he's fucking nuts but at least he's unpredictable and entertaining. Oh and I forgot to mention he wastes another 5 minutes of every game pretending to be injured. Tosser.

His play does seem to be better than last year, but his crosses and corners are still terrible.
I have no idea why he's taking corners. It's bizarre.

Nail on the head . Improving from zero is hardly any improvement, the actual truth is Ashley should be paying the fans for every minute he stays on the pitch , yeah I see your pointer on work ethic but if am to access Williams and shaw and Young am might be too early but I’ll have Williams over young and between young and shaw I’ll roll a dice because both are not standalone left backs , if it needed the expenditure of fortune to get Ashley Young to go from a zero to 2 then I guess i need not say much and if even with the acquisition of fortune shaw still looks average then I also not need say much about both players . I want Williams and shaw battling it in training and matches so come summer I want to know if it’s time to sell shaw .

Worse than Phil Jones on corners
Worse than anyone!
Even somebody who's crap at taking corners should get it right sometimes, even by sheer luck. Young literally never gets it right! Except for that one time he found Maguire's head, but he probably miskicked it..
