Henriquez tipped for Premier League success this season
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has said that he believes that Wigan’s young striker Angelo Henriquez, on loan from Manchester United, will prove to be crucial to the Latics’ success from now until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old scored on his Premier League debut for Wigan in their defeat to Sunderland this weekend and Martinez claimed that the header converted from Shaun Maloney’s cross will not be the last we see from the young Chilean during his loan at the club.
Speaking about Henriquez, he said: “Whether he is scoring or not, Angelo has the profile of a goalscorer.
“His movement off the last man is fantastic and he has a knack of always being in the right place.
“Scoring on his Premier League debut is going to do a world of good for his confidence but I don’t think it will change his manner of playing or the high esteem he holds himself in.”
“I have been very impressed with him (Henriquez). He is a young man who plays like a mature footballer and I am sure he will be an important player for us from now until the end of the season.”
Henriquez was plucked by Sir Alex Ferguson from Universidad de Chile at the age of just 17 after scoring 11 goals in 17 games for the club. He had previously been on trial at United and Ferguson snapped him up a season early to make sure he secured his signature.
Having already represented the Chilean national team, scoring on his debut as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat, Henriquez has made a habit of scoring on his debut having done so for the U21s too.
If the early signs of him are anything to go by, scoring goals comes naturally to Henriquez and a good loan spell at Wigan could really open up some opportunities for him at Old Trafford.
