LIVE BLOG: MUFC vs. AmaZulu FC
For me, that was a perfectly reasonable start. Most of our youngsters got game time. Lingard looked the best of the bunch.
Game over. Manchester United 1-0 AmaZulu – a sole goal from Macheda wins the first game of the tour.
Lovely football from Tunnicliffe and Vermijl nearly resulting in the second goal but Berbatov did not run to the front post.
Somebody get Berbatov a cane. Even walking looks too exhaustive for him now.
I hope he can put those delicious through balls down all season. United will reap the rewards if he can.
Kagawa has got the Scholes-esque twitchy neck. Good starting signs.
The moment we have all been waiting for. Kagawa comes on to huge applause for Chicharito.
A beautifully effort from Petrucci comes back off the bar. Great try from the youngster.
A break for United slows to another canter as possession football takes over. When will the ball go out of play?
A dangerous free kick from Van Heeren nearly catches Lindegaard off his line.
We’re looking at the future of United play tonight. So much youth on show and there have plenty of encouraging signs.
The game looks to be slowing to a canter now. AmaZulu running out of energy and United happy to sit.
United look happy to see this 1-0 victory.
Intelligent play from Tunnicliffe from the throw leads to a great opportunity for Hernandez. Well saved by the keeper.
Petrucci straight away shows the comfort he has with the ball at his feet. A real ballplayer and I hope he gets first team action this year.
If Sir Alex wasn’t fibbing, Kagawa and Powell won’t play in this game. 4 subs made already.
A warm applause from Scholes from both sets of fans. Always good to hear.
Lingard and Scholes off. Petrucci and Tunnicliffe on.
A scrambled shot from AmaZulu has Lindegaard crawling but it just sneaks wide.
Tunnicliffe and Petrucci to come on. Great news. Can’t wait to see what Davide can do.
United not playing the pressing game they were early on in the game. Defensive wall has been put up.
Neat football from United in the final third but Blackett dispossessed.
AmaZulu ring in the changes. A new goalkeeper comes on as well.
If only Anderson can have an RVP-esque coming of potential season without injury. Our problems may just disappear.
Correction. Paddy made me think the decision went the other way. Bad Paddy.
How is that a penalty?
United looking like they are happy with 1 for now. AmaZulu looking the more likely to score.
Blackett looks like a terminator running down the wing. Man beast.
A mixed performance from Brady. Looked great going forward but positionally poor. Learning curve.
Lindegaard pulls out a class save after a downward header from AmaZulu. Leaking chances now. Anderson and Blackett to come on. Macheda + Brady off.
Brady does not take any chances with a dribbler across the box and hoofs it for a corner.
Berbatov is thriving off the free space tonight. Maybe he should move to the South African league. He’d be a star.
Lindgaard tested once again. This time from a fizzing effort on the edge of the box but it was straight at him.
Macheda wins a corner for United. a Lingard delivery goes straight to the keeper. Wasted.
Substitutes warming up for United.
Beautiful play on the edge of the area from United. Chicarito forced wide to continue the attack.
A corner from AmaZulu is kicked clear but they are looking far more dangerous now.
AmaZulu clean through on goal but Dlamini’s shot is well saved by Lindegaard. Dangerous time there for United.
Lovely one two between Macheda and Brady blocked by the AmaZulu defence.
Second half has started slowly. Veseli off for Vermijl.
Half time. United leading through a goal by Macheda. Highlight of the half was the volley from Berbatov. Majestic.
Corner right before half time for AmaZulu. Flicked on but nobody chasing in. The referee blows his whistle.
Macheda gets through on goal but drags his shot wide. The Italian looks hungry for more.
Berbatov is adding the pounds to his price tag with this performance.
Second corner well defended but knocked out for third. Brady knocks this one too deep. Goal kick.
Brady knocks it deep to Berbatov who hits it sweetly on the volley on the edge of the area. Textbook technique. Wonderful.
Free kick right on the edge of the area. Berbatov is licking his lips. Off the top of the wall, corner.
Lingard cynically pulled back after a great through ball. Would of been a red in a game other than a friendly.
Ferdinand catches himself out of position but he gets back just in time to stop Dlamini. Great recovery.
Corner leads to nothing and play continues.
Free kick given away by Brady. Headed out for a corner.
Brady giving plenty of space to AmaZulu and loses another tackle to give chances away. Positioning questions.
Imperious control from Berbatov as he brings the ball out of the air like. He is glorious to watch.
A dubious free kick against Hernandez stops what would almost definitely have been number 2. Lucky break for AmaZulu.
Macheda called offside, despite Paddy ensuring that he was not. He was.
Looking forward to seeing what Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell can do later in the game.
Brady put through but cannot find the cross and gives it straight to the keeper.
Only Paul Scholes can massively mis-hit a pass and still expect it to reach the destination.
Little Lingard looks fast in the middle. He is causing all sorts of problems with his movement. Draws a foul from AmaZulu.
A misplaced pass from Berbatov gives AmaZulu a chance but a wild effort over the bar was closer to row Z than the net.
AmaZulu seem to have been invigorated by United taking the lead. Pushing forward more now.
Hernandez offside watch: number two.
United go straight on the counter after great skill from Berbatov but Lingard overhits his pass by inches. Very close.
Lindegaard is forced into a smart save by Blamini. That was going in. Corner from Amazulu well cleared.
Macheda flagged offside after a nice clipped ball from the back. Tight call there.
The floodgates could open. Michael Carrick puts a delicious lopped ball to Lingard but his pass is too heavy and the attack finishes.
That goal was inevitable. United have pressed, attacked and looked dangerous for the first 20 minutes.
Kiko Macheda loves scoring in pre-season. That’s three years in a row he has netted on United’s travels.
A beautiful United counter leads to a smooth finish from Macheda. United 1-0.
AmaZulu only won four games at home last season, so the omen tonight is not looking too good.
AmaZulu get a real opportunity after Brady gets caught out of position but can’t keep their shot down.
An easy catch for the goalkeeper from Brady’s corner that was too deep.
Ferdinand’s clips a ball to Macheda but his cross is blocked. A deflected Scholes pass now gives United another corner.
The full backs are standing on the AmaZulu side of the centre circle as a starting position. Expecting more overlapping runs.
A short corner from United, followed by some intricate passing and a whipped cross from Carrick puts Wooton through. Miscontrol. Attack over.
Lingard sets Brady through with a well timed pass but the AmaZulu defence holds off well. Corner to United.
Welcome back Michael Carrick, who plays a wonderful cross field ball to Hernandez. Your loss, England.
For those that don’t already know, United’s tour will see them cover over 24,000 miles – over 4 times more than the PL season.
Hernandez gets his traditional offside after a great ball from Scholes over the top.
A lovely bit of play from Scholes and a drilled ball across the box to Berbatov but he gets blocked off.
A whipped ball from Brady drops in the six yard box but is well cleared by AmaZulu.
Lingard feeds Macheda but a tackle from Van Heerden knocks it out for a United corner.
Vuvuzela’s are but a distant drone so far. I’m sure a goal from either side would up the decibels.
A patient build-up from United eventually comes to nothing on the edge of a crowded AmaZulu box.
United break but Macheda’s ball couldn’t get through to Hernandez. All United so far.
AmaZulu all over the place. A miskick from the goalkeeper nearly lets United in from distance but shot blocked.
Scholes with a trademark ball clipped over the top to Hernandez but just skids off to the goalkeeper.
Brady really hanging out wide left and supporting the attack. United playing very aggressive up the pitch.
Beautiful feet from Brady onto the overlap and a Macheda shot falls to Chicharito but he misses. Should of scored.
Lindegaard starting with a shaky pass that goes off for a throw on. Pitch not looking too fresh.
Here we go. Game on.
This is the fourth time United have visited South Africa in pre-season. The previous three times preceded a title.

The teams are now walking out to a packed stadium. Not long before United kick off their season.
What’s your prediction? I think there are goals for both sides in this. A 3-1 United win for me.
This tour is most likely the swansong for Berbatov. Love him or loathe him, he is the definition of a true professional.

Only 3 of the starting 11 have made 150 appearances or more and over half of the team are U24.
Three debut performances in the starting lineup tonight – Veseli, Lingard and Brady.
Robbie Brady has a real opportunity tonight at LB. Could he be United’s version of Jordi Alba?
