Manchester United offer for Wesley Sneijder confirmed by Galatasaray

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have had an offer for Wesley Sneijder turned down by Galatasaray according to the club’s sports co-ordinator Bulent Tulun.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to United every summer for the last few years ever since becoming disillusioned with his career in Italy and David Moyes has made a move in an attempt to bring the Dutch playmaker to Old Trafford this year.

Speaking to Turkish newspaper Milliyet, Tulun said: “Two weeks ago, Sneijder received an indirect offer from United but it was not accepted.

“There are several clubs that want Sneijder but we want to keep him.”

Sneijder has been stripped of his captain’s armband and dropped from the Dutch national side since joining Galatasaray as a consequence of playing football in the Turkish league, so a move to the Premier League could be the perfect way to kick start his international career again.

A couple of years ago, Sneijder was seen as the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes and his performance in the 2010 World Cup that saw Holland get to the final warranted those claims.

With Rooney and Kagawa, bringing in an attacking player who thrives in the #10 role is not something that Moyes should see as a prerogative but with a reported price tag of €9 million, Sneijder could potentially bring a creative dynamic to United’s midfield that it has lacked for some time.

Do you think Manchester United should still try to sign Wesley Sneijder this summer?
